Go Vote to Determine Who I Train With Next Friday!

My weekly poll on Discord is in full swing, with Iron Man Infinity War (IW) as the newcomer to the shortlist. The other contenders are Emma Frost, Diablo, Odin, Cable, Black Widow Deadly Origin (DO), King Groot, and Spider-Gwen.

Guillotine 2099 will be the champion I train with during this coming Friday’s (Jan. 28) live stream. I’ve had her as a 5-star champion for some time, and I’ve not (yet) looked at any of the training materials for her, so if you have any recommendations for articles or videos, please feel free to let me know!

Help me learn how to play this champion on Friday!

I’m planning a gaming stream tonight, where I’ll be recording a couple of videos. I’m looking to NOT play Marvel Contest of Champions tonight, so it’ll probably be either Skyrim, Stardew Valley, or Spider-Man PS4, but I’m also planning to record an unboxing video AND possibly a trailer reaction to the second trailer for season 2 of Picard, which I haven’t seen yet.

If you’d like to vote on who I’m going to train with next week, or you’d like to know about whenever I go live, consider joining my Discord and subscribing to my YouTube channel.

Weekend Was Lower-Key Than I’d Planned or Wanted

Welp, sometimes life just doesn’t go the way you want.

The plan for this weekend had been to relax, kick back, play some video games, maybe do a live stream or two, and even possibly wander out into the world to run some basic errands. And, to be fair, some of those things got done.

But then I came downstairs wrong on my foot, and… ow.

To start, I’m mostly fine. What happened was, I felt a SHARP lance of pain shoot through my left Achilles heel as I came down on that foot, causing me to immediately pull said foot off the ground and hop around on my right leg for a step or two. When I brought it down, it was mostly manageable, but there was a shadow twinge of the pain I’d felt a few seconds before, and it was not something I wanted to relive, at all.

I was able to walk on it more or less normally, but I’d feel the pain again (though not as sharply) whenever I got up from a sitting or lying down position, so I spent much of the week wondering if I was going to need any surgery, or if I’d need a cane to get around safely. Fortunately, I was able to talk to a doctor online, who told me it was likely nothing serious, as there was no swelling, I was able to put weight on it regularly, and I could even rise up on my toes without a problem. He suggested a couple of remedies in case there was more pain (cold packs and Aleve, basically), and said to contact a physician personally if it’s still an issue in a week or two.

So, that’s good.

But let me tell you: there is nothing quite like a sudden, sharp, surge of pain when you’re doing something you otherwise hardly ever think about to remind you of just how fragile our bodies can be. It completely threw off my content creation and errand-running plans for the weekend (though I did relax–kinda had to–and play some video games, because priorities).

I’m back at work and didn’t have any issues this morning. Hopefully that’ll be the worst of it for some time. I wish everyone a happy, healthy day, free of sudden bodily pain like that which I experienced on Friday.

I mention my injury VERY briefly during this livestream, at the tail end. Enjoy!

Moon Knight Reaction (non-stream) Is Up!

It always takes me a little longer than I’d like, but I finally got my reaction to the new Moon Knight trailer posted to my channel. While I may not be able to respond as quickly to content like this as the YouTube content creators who are doing this for their livelihood, I’m nevertheless happy to be able to make content like this in my spare time and work my regular, full-time job. I can even (slowly) invest in my channel by occasionally purchasing equipment and watching the odd YouTube channel creator video on work time, since I’m actually teaching (a VERY rudimentary) YouTube basics for content creators program at the library.

Getting back to Moon Knight: while he’s not the most well-known Marvel character, Moon Knight definitely has a small but hardcore cult following among Marvel fans. My understanding is that he’s Marvel’s answer to Batman, but with several significant twists, including lunar mysticism and the presence of dissociative identity disorder (DID) that plagues Marc Spector, Moon Knight’s alter ego. He’s fairly “street-level” in terms of his power set, to my limited knowledge, but we’ll see how true that is when the show comes out on March 30.

Moon Knight is also the subject of a really funny meme that may be (until possibly now or very soon after, at least) the main source of his reach among casual audiences. I know it made me laugh out loud the first time I saw it.

And that’s pretty much all I know about him. The show will feature Oscar Isaac in the title role, along with Ethan Hawke as someone who appears to be the show’s main antagonist. Both of those actors are amazing, and I’m eager to see how they bring these Marvel characters to life, and hopefully make Moon Knight and his world a compelling and intriguing addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Come March 30, we’ll certainly find out!

Here’s the link to my trailer reaction. Enjoy!

Moon Knight Trailer! Reaction Stream Tonight!

It looks like Disney Plus released a trailer for its upcoming show Moon Knight yesterday, and while I haven’t streamed a reaction to it yet, you can rest assured that I’ll have a live stream reaction tonight, and an edited video upload of said reaction in the next day or two!

It’s been unusually silent on the announcement end of Disney Plus’s Marvel content, which after 2021, where we typically knew things several weeks–if not months–in advance, feels a little… off. There’s plenty they’re apparently going to make and release this year, but until yesterday, we had no idea when any of it was going to drop. At least now we know Moon Knight will be premiering on March 30 of this year.

And, of course, it’s on a Wednesday. Disney Plus is nothing if not consistent.

I always look forward to new Marvel content on this platform, but what they’ve got in the works will definitely explore some of the less tread-upon territory in the MCU. In addition to Moon Knight, I believe we can look forward to Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk, Secret Invasion, and season 2 of What If…? And that’s in addition to the feature films due out this year: Doctor Strange In the Multiverse of Madness, Thor: Love and Thunder, and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

So, there is plenty of content on the way this year! I’d just like to know more about when the Disney Plus stuff will be gracing my small screens.

Anyway, speaking of small screens, keep an eye out for tonight’s live stream, which you can easiest do by subscribing to my YouTube channel! I’ll be mostly gaming, but I’ll also carve out a few minutes to film a reaction to the Moon Knight trailer!

Until then, here’s a stream from yesterday, where I squeeze as much Marvel Contest of Champions as I can into a couple of hours. Enjoy!

So, I Uploaded Today After All, But…

It wasn’t the video I’d intended/expected to upload today.

While I won’t get into the specifics of today’s intended video, I will say it wasn’t ANOTHER unboxing video like I’d just released on Sunday. But, work and personal circumstances being what they are, I should be happy that I was able to get *something* edited and uploaded to maintain my upload schedule.

Anyway, here it is. Let me know what you think, either here or in the comments section of the video!

I kinda love FiGPiNs. And Spidey stuff. So, perfect combo.

Hopefully I’ll get the intended video up by at least next Wednesday.

This Week’s Planned Schedule Is In Flux

I was planning to have an upload this Wednesday, but COVID.

Before you get nervous, I don’t have COVID–at least, not as of this posting. But it looks like the illness is may be making its way through my co-workers, and while I’m hopeful that I can manage to stay healthy, there’s another problem in the meantime.

We’ve got a lot of people who aren’t coming in for long swaths of time because they need to isolate or quarantine, meaning those of us who aren’t exhibiting symptoms of illness may have to work extra time, cover shifts, and generally keep things going. I’m happy to do this, because I like my co-workers and want to keep our operations running as smoothly as possible. This could impact my ability to set aside time to work on this week’s video, which while unfortunate, is simply necessary in order to maintain our services at work.

Rest assured, if I can still get a video posted on Wednesday, I most certainly will. I’m just not sure when or if I will find the time and energy to do it yet.

In the meantime, here’s a video I posted yesterday. I should hopefully be doing another one in the coming weeks.

Unboxing video, featuring Spidey collectibles and a studio addition.

Guardian Wins the Next Character Training Stream!

The votes are in! Guardian will be the next champion I train with on stream next Friday. I think I play him relatively well, but I’m eager to see what my viewers will have to say both about the character’s abilities as well as how I handle him. I’ve only played him for a short time, but I have enjoyed using his Special 2 attack to burst damage my opponents quickly. He’s quickly become one of my favorite Tech characters in Marvel Contest of Champions.

Vote which champion from this shortlist I’ll be training with on the next livestream!

If you’d like to vote who I’ll train with after Guardian, the polls have just opened on my Discord server! Go on over to my YouTube channel, IGNORE the terrible trailer that still autoplays there, and click the Discord invite link on my channel’s banner. You can find the poll in the #marvel-contest-of-champions section, featuring the graphic shown above!

Since the Human Torch was the previous winner, I’ll include a link below to the stream where I trained with him. The actual training is during the latter half of the stream, after the crystal openings. Enjoy!

I’m Back — And I’ve Brought a YouTube Channel With Me!

Hey everybody!

I’m resurrecting this blog/website, which hasn’t seen any action in almost 5 years.

I’ve taken my content creation energy to YouTube, where I’ve started uploading content regularly during the last year. My videos have been running the gamut lately, but I’m planning to use this platform to help unite my video creation to align with my love for Spider-Man–along with some video game play, of course.

We’ve recently seen the success of Spider-Man: No Way Home, which has set records even during a pandemic. There’s plenty of upcoming news and speculation about future films, a video game sequel coming out next year, and even a show on Disney+, all in addition to the continuing adventures of the webslinger in the regular comics! Truly, it is a wonderful time to be a Spider-Fan.

If you’re coming here from my YouTube channel, welcome! This site should hopefully serve as another forum for my content that isn’t just videos (though I plan on sharing videos here regularly), or a place you can go if YouTube somehow isn’t working for you.

If you’re a long-time follower from WordPress, it’s good to see you again! Sorry I was gone for so long, but I promise it was all for the better. Feel free to subscribe to the channel if you’d like to see my video content in addition to the writing I’ll be doing here.

Stay tuned for more posts, video and otherwise. Until next time, thanks for reading, and I’ll see you soon!

Two Rules I Follow (and One I Should) When Writing

Whenever I do manage to write regularly, there are some self-imposed rules I try to follow, and then others that I don’t.  Then there are others still that I discover along the way, even if I’ve known of them previously.

Firstly, I’ve tried to follow the 500 words per day dictum, and have been met with only modest success.  It’s not that I can’t physically write 500 words a day, but doing so, day in and day out, really wears me down after a while.  I would guess it’s the whole “quota” aspect of it.  Lately, I’ve tried sticking to about 500 words a day on average, but have focused more on the time I’m putting in as opposed to a word count.  Saying that I devote, say, about 20-30 minutes a day to writing new stuff gives me the time needed to continue writing, but without having to check a word count tool every few minutes for whether or not I’ve gotten to some kind of established finish line.

Secondly, there’s the dictum about writing what you know.  This is one of those rules I patently DON’T follow.  I have never understood nor particularly agreed with this concept, as there would be no science fiction or fantasy without it, for one.  For another, my life as it is is pretty mundane.  That’s not a complaint, it’s just the truth.  I work, I come home, I hang out with my friends and loved ones, and I play a lot of video games whenever I’m not writing.  I have no problem incorporating some of these elements into my fiction, but it’s not like I’ve ever been a monster slayer, or had spider-powers (much as I might wish for them).  Hell, I’ve only ever fired a gun a couple of times, but I don’t feel like I know now how the mind of a sharpshooter or an international assassin works.

So, I tend to wing it.

I can do research and interview people to back up what I write, but otherwise, I’m very much just playing things by ear.  Because otherwise, my stories simply won’t get written.

Finally, there’s the rule I haven’t followed much, but probably should.

Often, when I come to write, I’m an emotional blank slate.  I can sometimes induce feelings in the course of writing, and sometimes it feels like I’m just trying to fill space, or entertain myself.  Other times, rarer times, I come to the desk with an overriding emotion in place: anger, sadness, joy, curiosity, and so on.  And when I set those feelings into my fingertips and onto the keyboard–man, what comes out is often so cathartic.

I need to do this more often.  I need to develop a habitual trigger that brings me to the keyboard whenever I’m in a state of high emotions, because even though it’s often frightening to put to words whatever I may be feeling, it also makes for easier (and I would argue better) writing in general.  When I let the feelings out through my stories, they feel a lot more genuine, more connected to me personally, and they also just tend to flow from me a lot quicker.

I think if I can just let fly some of those emotions onto the paper of my choice, I can do a better job of meeting the first rule (500 words a day, 20-30 minutes a day) and flouting the second (write only what you know).

Just some thoughts.
